The Theater of Selves

There are infinite characters within us. All we need do is create the right setting and they will emerge. Good actors know and benefit from this truth as they step into a role.

Consciously and unconsciously we choose the settings we engage in, and in so doing, assure the presence of the corresponding characters. By making  this process conscious, we can draw out the characters you most wish to experience both in yourself and in your partner. We understand this when we create romance by setting a romantic atmosphere.

Characters are shy. Just as the rager in us is shy showing up in a tender, loving moment, so the lover in us is shy about showing their face in a fight. Awareness of this principle gives us an enormous power as we consciously choose the setting within which we will and will not engage.

Action: Make a list of the parts of your partner that you find the easiest to love and be nourished by. Make another list of the characters within yourself that you find easiest to love and want to bring to your partners. Engage your partner in a conversation about your intention to bring these qualities out in yourself and them. Now design a special setting or event that will support these chosen selves coming into your space. Honor them by creating the set upon which they can make their appearance.
