Playing Your Edge

Your edge is that domain where you are just barely able to pause and master your triggered reactions, thus avoiding a cycle of pain. Using tools of distance and intimacy you can find how close you can be to your sensitive issues and maintain your poise. How close to another can you get before you lose your balance and fall into reaction? How much can you love and still detach and support another’s freedom?

Playing your edge makes for intense, dynamic and rewarding relationships. It is also something, like racing, to be done when you have the energy reserves to invest.

Action: Pick an area in your relationship with yourself that has been hard for you. Perhaps a cycle where you start judging yourself for judging yourself. Sit quietly and see whether you can enter the triggered dynamic and interrupt the cycle with a consciously chosen response that serves you.
