Sirens of Perfection

Have you ever noticed the freedom and the magic that is sometimes there in moments that have no expectation? The story that writes itself…  The love that blossoms and miraculously gifts us in the most unlikely way. How do these moments get lost?

When something arrives unexpectedly it exists outside of our current evaluative framework and we do not immediately evaluate it in relation to templates of pre-established perfection. Rather we see the perfection and the gift in what is.

When this surprise event stands out to us as really great, it can prompt us to take a closer look through the lens of  our preexisting templates of perfection. Invariably it does not measure up well and we begin the process of re-educating our feelings. “He’s not so great. He’s bald, for crying out loud!”

Love flourishes when it is welcome and received as it is by a gracious host. It withers among thorns of misconceived inadequacy.

Action: Be careful when your life drifts too close to fantasies of perfection. These fantasies are as sirens, beckoning you with promises of adequacy upon the rocks of control and loss. Respect the cargo of your love and stay true to the energy of promise.
