Raising Your Upper Limit
While creatively distributing energy flow and consumption to stay within boundaries is an important skill, sometimes what we are most passionate about in our lives is completely outside our upper limit to create. Every dynamic dreamer reaches this threshold of crisis and opportunity.
The upper limit is guarded by our protector, who’s job is to insure that certain boundaries are not crossed until we have the skill and willingness to safely cross them. In the case of our upper limit, what our protector wants to know is: can we be responsible for who we are and know our boundaries while increasing the amount of energy flowing through our system?
As we cultivate this skill and willingness our upper limit rises. As it does, pieces of our shadow emerge with lost gifts of forgotten energy we need to operate in this new terrain. Old storage systems for emotions are ruptured and the power contained within those emotions floods through our system, threatening to overwhelm our sense of self. When we are ready for an emotional wave we may be ready to raise our upper limit.
Raising our upper limit can have other consequences: In order for it to raise it may cross a boundary behind which we harbor a certain grudge, or resentment we don’t want to let go of. Letting go may be the price we need to pay to raise our upper limit.
One way to map out this terrain is to gently begin raising the amount of energy flowing through you and notice the resistance that shows up to stop you. Negotiating the release of that resistance and what it protects is your price for a higher upper limit. Are you willing to pay it?
Action: Assess which of your dreams are possible within your upper limit? Are any of your dreams important enough to you to raise your upper limit and pay the price to do so?
