Criticize and Appreciate
Both have a powerful role in understanding ourselves. We tend to criticize what we don't like and judge. We appreciate things that appeal to the eyes we are looking through. Both actions bring consciousness. After you engage in either you are conscious of something you were not conscious of before. And it engages you emotionally as well, which adds to your attention.
So have at it. Wildly appreciate and criticize, agree and disagree. But don't enjoy it so much that you forget to notice what you learn about yourself. And as an exercise: In each chapter you read practice each with balance: A few things you don't like or disagree with and a few things that you do like and agree with. Even when something totally resonates, find something to criticize. And when it seems poorly written and completely crazy, find a few things to appreciate as well. It's more interesting that way.
